Dark Phoenix, also known as Jean Grey, is a central character in the X-Men series. She is a mutant with powerful telepathic and telekinetic abilities. In the Dark Phoenix saga, Jean becomes the host for the Phoenix Force, a cosmic entity that enhances her powers to god-like levels but also amplifies her struggle to maintain control. The Dark Phoenix action figure captures this transformation with a detailed design that includes her fiery red hair and classic green and gold costume.
Cyclops, whose real name is Scott Summers, is another key member of the X-Men. He has the ability to emit powerful energy blasts from his eyes, which he controls using a special visor. The Cyclops action figure in this set is designed with his signature blue and yellow X-Men uniform and includes his iconic ruby-quartz visor.
The set comes with several accessories. For Dark Phoenix, there is an interchangeable head that shows her in her non-Phoenix state, as well as a small Phoenix bird that can be attached to her hand to represent the Phoenix Force. Cyclops comes with an alternate head that features him without his visor, showing the energy beams coming from his eyes.
One unique feature of this set is the inclusion of the Phoenix bird accessory. This small figure can be attached to the Dark Phoenix action figure's hand, allowing for dynamic poses that showcase her connection with the Phoenix Force. Another unique feature is the alternate head for Cyclops, which shows him unleashing his optic blast, a key aspect of his character in the comics.
Marvel Legends Cyclops and Dark Phoenix figure review by lylesmoviefiles.com
The standout pieces in this collection, with previous versions feeling lacklustre in comparison, have a new packaging presentation that is eye-catching and familiar, with tributes to classic comic book artwork. The character likeness in both figures is exceptional, with detailed head sculpts capturing their essential characteristics. The scale of each works well, though their paint jobs may have minor glitches. Articulation is as standard, with few restrictions to the posed action scenes. Dark Phoenix boasts more in the accessories department, with multiple head sculpts included, while Cyclops would benefit from an unmasked head piece. Retailing at $40 for the pair, they are good value but would snap up at a slightly discounted price. Finally, the exclusive set can be found in Toys R Us or on Amazon. One issue noted was the difficulty in finding one with a correctly painted Cyclops cowl/visor, which would boost the set's rating to a perfect 10.
Marvel Legends: Dark Phoenix and Cyclops 2-pack (Review) by www.masterless.me
Adding another layer to Jean Grey's story with the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix saga, Marvel broadened the possibilities for merchandise, storylines and video game features. Among these are the Marvel Legends range offered exclusively by Toys 'R' Us, featuring Phoenix and Cyclops. Although these figures were released back in 2017 and are hard to find now, the strong interest remains, especially around the Dark Phoenix. This figure stands out for its three varied faces capturing Jean Grey/Phoenix's progression from neutral to evil. Further details, such as the phoenix construct accessory, are also compelling, despite not completely aligning with the comic storyline. While some collectors may be familiar with, and tired of, Hasbro's typical body mold for female characters, the well-executed details and designs can still catch the eye. However, the set has its drawbacks, including underdeveloped Cyclops figure and missing large Phoenix Force feature. Nevertheless, as a big fan and a Marvel Legends collector, this pair is definitely worth adding to the collection, even if that means paying a bit more to secure them.
