Masters of the Universe Mattel Classics Castle Grayskull
  • Masters of the Universe Mattel Classics Castle Grayskull

All-new sculpt is based on the original 1981 prototype! For 2013, you’ll find an extra battle ledge, elongated jaw/face, a removable minaret on top of the dome and much more. Dimensions are approximately 23" to top of pier, 18" wide, and 11.5” deep when closed. The Jawbridge is approximately 8" tall. Real opening Jawbridge just like you remember… only way cooler because now He-Man fits inside! Just like the vintage toy, this is a two-sided foldout design but there are three levels to show off your MOTUC figures (in scale with most of our 6.5” figures). Two secret doors for stealthy getaways – the first, a traditional door that opens out the back, and the second door is a secret brick wall that exits to the outside ledge. Trap door leading to the dungeon (of course) has an opening door, plus “locks” and chains to hold one misbehaving figure.

Masters of the Universe Classics: Castle Grayskull by Mattel by figurefanzero.com review sentiment positive

Christmas time brings back my fondest childhood memories of receiving those dream playsets I eagerly awaited all year – the grand toys that only Santa could deliver, like the Micronauts Mega-City or the Star Wars Death Star Playset. This year, I chose to dust off that same excitement by unveiling the Masters of the Universe Classics (MOTUC) Grayskull playset that's been tucked away, teasing me for months. This colossal toy, probably the largest I've owned, adorned with magnificent artwork, towers over my other figures, with even He-Man appearing pint-sized in its presence. I've admired the box so much that, despite the lack of a fireplace in my Florida home, I've even considered framing it. As a child, I wasn't able to delve into the Masters of the Universe realm, but the Classics line has since allowed me to indulge in that missed chapter. Castle Grayskull itself is breathtaking, from its rocky foundations to the walls and skull facade suggesting it belongs to someone like Skeletor rather than a noble warrior such as He-Man. The castle's details, like the drawbridge and coat of arms, look incredibly authentic, while the stone and thatched roofing around the back exude an aura of medieval mystique. There's even a secret door and other hidden features that pique my curiosity. While some parts of the playset are merely functional, like the hinge, the attention to detail elsewhere more than makes up for it. The top battlements provide additional display space for figures, regardless of whether I can fully open the castle due to space constraints. The playset's sheer size ensures it's a masterpiece in its own right, and He-Man stands perfectly in front of it, capturing the essence of the franchise. This Christmas, as I prepare to finally open Grayskull, I'm not just reliving childhood glee; I'm also celebrating Matty's successful run with this beloved toy line. It's a bittersweet moment as the end of their tenure approaches, but the joy of this toy remains undiminished. Tomorrow, I'll unveil the full splendor within Grayskull, but for now, Christmas Eve keeps me waiting in anticipation – just like when I was a kid.

Masters of the Universe Classics Castle Grayskull Review by www.youtube.com review sentiment positive

I believe the fourth best Masters of the Universe product produced from 1982 to now is the Classics Castle Grayskull. This castle holds an essence of nostalgia, being 24.5 inches tall, 50% larger than the former versions and significantly improved in the sculpt and paint applications, resembling an upgrade from an old tube television to an HDTV. Updated detailing is seen in the wooden floors, exterior construction, jagged jawbridge and more. Certain features like a combat trainer laser and ladder are still included, alongside unexpected metal shackles and a variety of extra weapons. In the castle, there is an authentic feel as all cardboard inserts now serve as sculpted three-dimensional objects. An interesting feature is the throne, which activates a trapdoor under a rug. Castle Grayskull may not possess an exciting interior, but makes up for it with an iconic, artistic outer facade. It represents the biggest playset made for adult collectors, relevant to the loyal Masters of the Universe fan and leaves an impression on those with the space for this large playset. It's worth noting, however, the greenness of the original Castle Grayskull.
